Non-invasive diagnostic tool used to identify internal issues and provide targeted medical care.
Radiography is painless, very safe, and non-invasive, and it can sometimes be performed during an outpatient visit while you wait. Radiography is useful for evaluating the bones and the size, shape, and position of internal organs. Centennial Animal Hospital is proud to offer our clients digital x rays and digital dental x rays giving us access to higher quality images in a fraction of the time. This gives us a more accurate diagnosis for your dog faster while limiting his/her exposure to radiation.
One of the most common and valuable medical diagnostic tools is radiography or x-rays. X-rays are highly useful for screening areas of the body that have contrasting tissue densities or when evaluating solid tissues. Our hospital is equipped to perform routine radiology services to identify many types of illness or injury when pets are sick or suffer a trauma.
X-rays can be used to detect a variety of ailments including arthritis, tumours and lung abnormalities including pneumonia, bladder and kidney stones. They are also used to evaluate bone damage, organ integrity and identify foreign objects that may have been ingested. Dental radiographs will help to distinguish between healthy teeth and those that may need to be extracted and identify any abnormalities beneath the gums including root damage, tumours, and abscesses.
Our veterinarians may recommend x-rays as a part of a diagnostic procedure if your pet is experiencing any health conditions or as a preventive measure in a routine senior wellness examination.
A single radiographic session is not hazardous for your dog, but depending on your dog’s personality, the extent of the injury and the area being x-rayed, a sedative or anesthesia may be administered. If sedation or anesthesia is required, your pet should have fasted for approximately eight hours prior. Any clothing or harnesses may need to be removed for imaging purposes.
